“Come back, come back, whoever you are.
Wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving,
it doesn’t matter.
Ours is not a caravan of despair.
Come back, even if you have broken your vows a thousand times.
Come back, yet again, come back.”
A live Deep Dive with Henry
A Deep Dive is an immersive, multi-week experience of live practice and teaching with Henry, built around a specific text or poem. For Caravan, we’ll explore Rumi’s beloved poem about the journey of practice: a text that beautifully captures how we return again and again to the present moment, no matter how many times we’ve wandered away.
Over three weeks, you’ll gather with Henry and a community of fellow practitioners for extended guided meditations, dharma talks, and Q&A. This poem becomes a lens through which to explore your practice, giving you something concrete to return to again and again. It’s your opportunity to move from solo practice to shared practice, and to experience Henry’s guidance in real time.
A note from Henry
We often fall into the trap of thinking our practice must be perfect. We should immediately be able to summon clear, calm minds that are free from thought and feeling. And when this doesn’t happen on demand, we naturally get frustrated.
In this course, I’ll show you how to let go of that preconception. Practice can never be perfect. And at the same time it’s always already perfect, in its imperfections. It’s a constant cycle of distraction and returning, distraction and returning—what I believe is captured so beautifully by this poem of Rumi’s. It doesn’t matter how many times we get distracted—we are always able to find our way back home to the present moment.
What to expect
Over three weeks, you’ll join Henry for three live two-hour Sunday sessions featuring:
- Extended guided meditations (25-30 minutes) that let you fully settle into present moment experience
- In-depth dharma talks bringing together ancient traditions, modern wisdom, and poetry in Henry’s unique style
- Q&A periods where your practice questions get answered directly
You’ll stay connected throughout the Deep Dive via a dedicated WhatsApp group, creating a sense of community throughout your shared journey.
The path of remembering
The Sanskrit word for Mindfulness is smṛti स्मृति – which literally translates as “that which is remembered”. In many ways, the practice of mindfulness is remembering that our lives take place in the present. The more mindful we become, the more we get to live our actual lives – not caught up in the whirlwind of future worries and past regrets our minds can create for us.
At the same time, we also forget that we don’t control our own thoughts. Even very experienced meditators can become distracted by emotions and thoughts. This Deep Dive will be a reminder that there is no standard we need to live up to – no performance we need to achieve. There is simply our experience, as it unfolds.
What you’ll learn from Henry
